New P.R.

Deviating from Blogtimore to celebrate a new personal record.

Only eight hours in the studio to do this value study portrait. I think I'm learning to paint a lot faster, and getting into that whole blending thing you're supposed to do in painting (debatable). My biggest struggles are still pushing value/contrast and translating color into value. Which in retrospect is probably why this wasn't difficult.

My painting professor, a notoriously pompous Greek, says that it has a "very human quality." A week ago he told me that I couldn't draw; not that it was my own fault, just that no one at my school had taught me anatomy or perspective. I find him to be very "human." I spend a large portion of his class each week being astounded at what a psycho he is as he says truly degrading things to all. Variety is the spice of MICA.

Here I'll Be

I've made a blog specifically for my upcoming semester in Baltimore:

in-blogtimore.blogspot.com

Amy and I will be studying at MICA.

I hope to update my blogtimore quite regularly. I'll resume occasional usage of this blog for things art-related when I return.

Stuff I Bought

So my friends, truth be told I have been rolling in the dough so hard that I have crinkle marks on my back. Or is that because I have been laying sleeping atop the dough, dreaming about each consecutive shirt, shoe, or Kroger - brand sushi snack I will buy? Exactly!

It's time to highlight my favorite purchases of the summer, right now:

Gigantic Betsey Johnson dream catcher earrings - so large.

BJ pill box initial necklace - so secretive!

Statuesque lady shoes!

FOPOB! (first official pair of boots.)

Japanese Hair magazines - for groomspiration.

Shinzi Katoh aluminum bottles to accompany a slew of bento paraphernalia.

This chestnut brown 1975 Schwinn Varsity (note old-times blue Columbus bicycle license sticker!)

WWII era purse is custom-made for your stay-at-home sweetie. Or it is just really adorable.

Soon I will be off and living poor in Baltimore! Until then I am making more monies, seeing my brothers take wives, and cramming in as much gossip-time as possible. So be it.

What I Got

Is it June? I never did photograph my final review work; however, this is not too disappointing considering that I don't actually own a working digital camera. Here's what I have got:

Drawings

Self-portrait as Mermaid Lithograph

Mountain Suit Brainstorm I

Mountain Suit Brainstorm II

Derek

Paintings

This second self-portrait is part of a triptych. I wish I had photos of the other two paintings to prove to you that I can paint more than virtually spaceless likenesses of my person.

Hallway Painting . . . lame.

Collographs

The Snot I

The Snot II

The Snot III

Screen prints

Collars

Variations on Collars

Cheesecakes

This cheesecake batter tasted even better cooked in a homemade graham cracker crust without the stylish trimmins.

Coming Too Soon

I'm not prepared for school to end! I have to finish six projects that are due within the next 3, or 7-8 days, the majority of which I have barely begun.

Here are some sketches for my next screen print.

Introducing "The Little Lady."

Most people that have been privy to these sharpied self-portraits have found them mildly unsettling. . . which is why I think they're fabulous.

Soon to Come

I'll have images of my better work from this semester coming soon, including the many editions of my first screen print.

Slightly Less Fresh

Here are some images for an illustration I made last fall to be displayed at a fundraising event at my school.

Finalized sketch

Color studies in Illustrator

4'x6' poster sans flesh modulation

And one poor-quality image taken at the Hair Ball.

A member of the admissions faculty bought the poster for a fixed price of 100 bones because he thought the money from the sale went towards scholarships, woops. Last I heard he planned on displaying the painting in his large Victorian home and he requested that I add certain breast modulation to the figure. He has yet to bring the work to me so that I might subtly be-nipple the lady.
